Happy 4th!

I would like to pay tribute to all those who feel the need to call 911 on the 4th of July. Thank you for clogging up the phone lines and annoying those who you are going to want on your side in a real emergency.

Something to consider - While the loud noises you hear could be gunshots, lets play the odds people. Maybe a week or so before the 4th, buy some fireworks at one of those stands and let them off. Then watch a lot of violent movies on TV that have a lot of gunfire. Compare the noises and then use this knowledge to decide whether the loud bangs you hear are in fact gunshots, or merely celebratory fireworks set off by neighborhood kids.

Thanks in advance!

I am a 911 dispatcher, and your entries make me laugh because they sound so familiar. This last 4th of July, we had people calling at about 23:00 asking us to send officers to make people stop setting off fireworks because it was past the noise ordinance time of 22:00. Nevermind that the ENTIRE city was setting off fireworks and we had a total of 2 officers on!

Exactly. You should read my blog about the Lesson Plan. It covers the fireworks/shots fired call....
